Record whisky collection comes home
THE largest whisky collection in the world is back in its "spiritual" home in Scotland.
The 3,384 bottles – many of them unique – have been gathered by a Brazilian man over the past 35 years, and they will go on permanent display at the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh in March.
The collection has been confirmed as the world's largest by Guinness World Records.
Claive Vidiz, 73, began putting it together in 1973 after he was given a few rare bottles as presents. It has been snapped up by the drinks giant Diageo for an undisclosed sum, and experts say it is "invaluable".
The collection has been shipped to Scotland and a specially designed vault is being created at the Scotch Whisky Experience to display the bottles.
It is part of a 2 million investment at the tourist attraction on the Royal Mile.
Mr Vidiz said: "We have an expression in Brazil: 'the good son returns home' – and in my view, the collection is back with its family now."
