The Aberdeen-based firm said the deal, awarded by Carbon Creek Energy, will create up to 65 jobs and secure more than 40 further roles at its PSN division.

Carbon Creek’s coalbed methane asset in the Powder River basin in Wyoming produces about 385 million cubic feet of gas a day and PSN will deliver operations management services to the field, the largest of its kind in the region with about 7,000 drilled wells.

John Glithero, president for the Americas division of Wood Group PSN, said: “The management of services in unconventional oil and gas basins, including the coalbed methane market, presents a significant growth opportunity for us. We have the depth of experience and proven capabilities to deliver the broad portfolio of services required to meet the needs of operators working in this sector.”

Earlier this month, Wood Group promoted former PSN boss Robin Watson to the role of chief executive following Bob Keiller’s decision to retire at the end of the year.
