The enforcers circle hospital car parks while schools are too empty or too full and the council fiddles and Rome burns

Just when you thought the enforcers couldn't get any worse... Turns out they have been accused of preying on relatives of patients at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by circling the car park as soon as visiting time starts.

So the summary of this story, about the car parks at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) not the "ERI", is that some people who parked illegally got tickets. Of course sympathy lies with those whose relatives are in hospital. But this does not remove the need to enforce parking restrictions, otherwise it would be a free for all. The complainants know this fine well.

Oh stop taking it all so seriously. We need a bit of fun. Time for some quality input from that nice Korean gentleman

Are the enforcers right to target the ERI car parks at visiting time?

Moira Spewmagnet, 45, platypus shearer, Davidson's Mains: "Of course! My only regret is they are not armed. A little gunshot fire would get the message across – and of course the victims wouldn't have to go far to get treated."

Jim Hogpoke, 33, gargoyle taunter, Davidson's Mains: "It's supposed to be a free country. People should have the right to park their car wherever they choose. Even in my garage!"

Harriet Trussniffer, 42, sweat butterer, Davidson's Mains: "No, they should be out there looking for Madeline McCann. Have we no decency in this country?"

Douglas Anusprune, 56.45, retired thumbscrew lacquerer, Davidson's Mains: "Some of these people are just parking their cars there for a joke. They don't even need to be anywhere near the hospital. I think that's disgusting."

Jacqueline Vulture-Asphalt, 19, ibex stapler, Davidson's Mains: "I thought this was going to be a question about body piercings."

And so on and so on.

VIOLENT ANGRY SHOUTING KOREAN GENTLEMAN

Exactly. And now for more on body piercings. Er sorry, nothing on piercings. How about school desks? It seems at least half the desks in more than one in ten city schools are empty. (What?) However, some schools are more than 100 per cent full.

We're always hearing about how the unemployed don't have sufficient skills to get jobs. Let's require them to fill the empty spaces in schools and we can solve two problems.

Umm - how do you get more than 100% occupancy?

Irked, Edinburgh

How should I know?

Why not just bus the kids from the full schools to the empty ones. With all the wonderful improvements there's been to the city's transport system in the last five years or so......oh well nearly a good idea

It's Leith for me!

Thanks Leith. Can you almost solve the homeless problem too? Churches offering shelter to the homeless are having to turn people away because there are too many of them.

As usual the council fiddles while Rome is burning. Is it not strange that they stick with their trite stats in the face of actual bodies presenting at the church hall. Why did they close the (Cowgate] night centre without a plan and why in this day and age do we still have to rely on the mercy of strangers to deal with our most vulnerable.
