Readers turn a fresh page with new papers
A NEW monthly community newspaper for Morningside, Bruntsfield and Merchiston has been launched by the publishers of the Evening News.
The Morningside and Bruntsfield Gazette is available free in shops and community buildings such as GP surgeries, as well as being delivered door to door.
It features a round up of local news, taken from the Evening News, as well as local opinion and events. Among the contributors are police Inspector Tom Galbraith, Bridget Stevens, chair of the Merchiston Community Council, Suzi Wong, chair of Morningside Community Council, and Donald Grant, proprietor of Kays Bookshop, in Morningside Road.
The Morningside and Bruntsfield Gazette is to be followed by other new community newspapers, including the revival of the historic Leith Gazette title. A separate Gazette for Stockbridge and the New Town will follow in late March.
Gail Milne, editor of the Gazette series, said: "Feedback from readers and advertisers regarding the Morningside and Bruntsfield Gazette has been exceptionally positive. The Gazettes seem to have drummed up real community spirit, which is what local newspapers are all about."
