RBS turns its back on Doors Open Days

THE Royal Bank of Scotland has withdrawn from the Doors Open Days 2010 event planned for later this month because of security concerns.

The bank was due to welcome the public into its tightly-guarded global headquarters for the first time at Gogarburn, on the outskirts of Edinburgh over 25 and 26 September, as part of the annual festival giving people "behind the scenes" tours.

Marion Williams, director of the Cockburn Association, co- ordinating Doors Open Days in Edinburgh, said: "Edinburgh Doors Open Day were very pleased to have had the RBS Gogarburn Campus on the programme for the first time this year. However, acting on the advice of the authorities, RBS has had to withdraw due to security risks."

Dan Glass, a spokesman for Camp for Climate Action said: "It is ironic that when government offices, churches and even people's homes are open to the public for Doors Open Days, it is taxpayer-funded RBS which changes its mind."
