A RARE seventeenth-century portrait of Robert, Lord Bruce (1626-1685) has been put on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

The extremely distinguished and sensitive piece of art, depicting Lord Bruce as a child, was acquired for £35,000 from the Weiss Gallery in London.

Lord Bruce dons the fashion of the day – a delicate pink satin doublet, trimmed with buttons, braiding and precious silver thread.
