If independent record shops are to flourish in the wake of the demise of HMV, potential customers will need to be better informed than Emma Cowing (Perspective, 16 January).
Almost all of those she cited do not “still do well”. Edinburgh’s Avalanche Records announced an impending closure of its premises last November, although its website suggests it will remain open but on a part-time basis only.
It no longer has a Glasgow store following a staff buy-out. As for the West End’s Lost In Music, it closed its doors in August 2008.
