Rankin is handed immortality
CRIME writer Ian Rankin's handprints were today immortalised in stone in the quadrangle of the City Chambers.
The best-selling author unveiled the engraved Caithness stone slab to mark the launch of the second annual Edinburgh Award.
Mr Rankin, who lives in Merchiston, became the first recipient of the accolade, which was set up to recognise outstanding achievement and contribution to Edinburgh Nominations are now being invited for this year's award, with the winner being announced in June.
Mr Rankin said: "It is a thrill, as the first recipient of the Edinburgh Award, to have my handprints preserved for posterity on the flagstones outside the City Chambers.
"Having written for years about the travails of 'the cooncil', it is only proper and fitting that those same councillors now get to walk all over me for a change."
