Rail work on track for the festive break

ENGINEERING work on the main railway line between Edinburgh and Glasgow will take place over the Christmas and New Year period.

Rail workers will take advantage of the drop in passenger numbers to carry out a number of maintenance and renewal projects along the line. The work will start on Christmas Day and finish on January 2.

David Simpson, Network Rail route director, said: "Far from relaxing over the Christmas holidays, Network Rail engineers will be working harder than ever to deliver big improvements for train passengers.

"Christmas is traditionally one of the busiest times for our operational staff. We make the most of the huge drop in passenger numbers to carry out as much work as possible and reduce the need for disruption at peak travel times."

There will be no First ScotRail services on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Other services may be reduced or cancelled during the Christmas and New Year period, and passengers are advised to check before travelling.
