Radio preview

IMAGINE it. You're a presenter on BBC Radio Scotland and you learn that a week of themed programming will take you to one of the country's most visited pieces of architecture. You picture castles, the Scottish Parliament, Glasgow Barrowland. So imagine being told the location is the M8.

It's hardly an exciting proposition, but Adventures On The M8 will aim to prove otherwise by looking at the history, commuters and communities surrounding the motorway. Highlights include romantic comedy Love In The Bus Lane (BBC Radio Scotland, Friday, 11.30am) and Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub introducing a New Music Zone (BBC Radio Scotland, MW only, Thursday, 12.30am) focused on bands from the central belt, which can also be heard online at www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/zones.

For a more sluggish form of travelling entertainment, BBC 6 Music provides plenty of coverage of the Camden Crawl 2009 festival. The line-up includes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and indie-disco Portland outfit Hockey, who can both be heard on Lauren Laverne's show (Saturday, 4pm). Steve Lamacq At The Camden Crawl (Friday, 4pm) kicks things off with an acoustic session from Roddy Woomble and a guided tour from Camden locals Madness.

On BBC Radio 4, Pieces Of A Man (Tuesday, 11.30am) features an exclusive interview with hip-hop poet Gil Scott Heron, who has just turned 60. Other dates marked this week include Shakespeare's birthday month and the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession to the throne. Drama On 3 – Henry VIII (BBC Radio 3, today, 6pm) brings them neatly together.
