St Cyrus body feared to be missing angler

THE body of man was found on the shore close to St Cyrus today, near the area where a sea angler is feared to have been swept to his death while fishing on the Aberdeenshire coast.

Fraser Carrington, 32, from the Fife area, was night fishing at Tangle-ha, north of St Cyrus, when he was washed from the rocks in the early hours of Sunday.

Aberdeen Coastguard received a call from a man at around 3am reporting that another sea angler who was out with him had disappeared from the rocks, a mile north of St Cyrus, in what were described as “exceedingly rough” conditions.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said today: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of male was found on the shore close to St Cyrus today at around 9am by a member of the public. Enquires are ongoing to establish the full set of circumstances.”

He continued: “The family of missing person Fraser Carrington have been informed of the development. However, enquires are ongoing to identify the male recovered as soon as possible. As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

The spokesman added: “There is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances at this time.”
