Race hate crimes down 6 per cent in Lothian and Borders
RACIALLY motivated crimes in Lothian and Borders fell by six per cent last year against the three-year average, new figures have revealed.
A total of 1385 racially motivated offences were recorded by police between last April and March compared to 1469 for the three-year average.
Police solved 62 per cent, or 862, of last year's offences.
In Edinburgh alone, the number of racially motivated crimes remained almost unchanged against the three-year average, dropping slightly from 1092 to 1090.
In a recent incident at around 10pm on Sunday, an Indian man was held up at knifepoint near a Tesco store by a thief who racially abused him during the robbery.
The 23-year-old victim was walking towards Tesco in Colinton Mains Road when the suspect pulled out a knife.
