Quit-smoking shows alight in Lothians

ROADSHOWS to help smokers kick the habit are starting today in the Lothians.

Run by NHS Health Scotland and NHS Lothian, they are being held in Livingston today and then moving to Edinburgh tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

The roadshows will offer people a free test to show how much carbon monoxide is in their lungs, advice about quitting and DVDs on how to stop.

Kerry McKenzie, tobacco health improvement programme manager, said: "Roadshows are an excellent way of reaching out to smokers and getting across the message that free help and encouragement is available to help them stop smoking."

Helena Connelly, smoking cessation co-ordinator at NHS Lothian, added: "Evidence suggests that people are twice as likely to be successful in giving up smoking if they are given support rather than trying to go it alone."

Today's roadshow is taking place at McArthur Glen Shopping Centre between 10am and 4pm.

It will be held at Wester Hailes Shopping Centre tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.
