Queen of flats is up for sale
A FLAT which has been visited by Mary Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell and James I, is up for sale.
The property, which is believed to be one of Edinburgh’s two oldest residences, dates back to 1605 when it was first owned by the crusading Knights Templar.
Following a period in the 17th century when the house was in the hands of a prominent merchant who built his own Crockett’s Land next door, ownership passed through several generations of the same family, until it was eventually put up for public auction.
The two-storey flat in West Bow, which has seen Mary of Guise and her daughter, Mary Queen of Scots, as well as Cromwell and James I of England and VI of Scotland, grace its doorway, is now up for sale at offers over 325,000.
James Whitson, overseeing the sale for Rettie & Co estate agents, said: "We expect strong interest both locally and from across the globe."
