Queen goes barefoot in the mosque
THE Queen removed her shoes yesterday as she arrives at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
It is 31 years since she and the Duke of Edinburgh last visited the oil-rich United Arab Emirates. That visit was hosted by Sheikh Zayed and she was invited this time by his son and UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan.
The Queen will unveil the design of the Sheikh Zayed Museum, which will be built on Saadiyat Island, off the coast in partnership with the British Museum. It is being designed by British architects Foster and Partners. Also on the trip are Prince Andrew and Foreign Secretary William Hague taking part in a trade mission.
