Putting their best foot forward for MoonWalk
THEY were a group of teenagers sitting on a bench waiting for instruction during a routine PE lesson.
Then teacher Ishbel Fulton-Day had a brainwave. Instead of staying cooped up indoors, why not get her charges outside for a walk around the school's 1.5-mile perimeter?
The lesson for the 15 to 16-year-old fourth year pupils was a success and the consequences a bonus. Next Saturday, at midnight, the 15 girls and one boy from Northfields Academy in Aberdeen will be taking part in the annual MoonWalk for breast cancer charities. Along with 11 teachers, including Fulton-Day and head Sue Muncer, the pupils will walk the 13-mile Half Moon route with the aim of raising more than 2,000.
"They have all trained hard for this and I can't wait to get out there with them on the walk," Fulton-Day said.
This year's event, of which Scotland on Sunday is the media partner, starts at Inverleith Park, Edinburgh, and is expected to raise 3 million.
