Pupils set up healthy shop
PRIMARY school children are helping their community eat more healthily by opening their own grocer's shop once a week.
Pupils at Whitecraig Primary School are set to sell fruit, vegetables, eggs and lentils to the public every Tuesday lunchtime as part of the East Lothian village's community food co-operative.
They will arrange the produce in the school shop after it arrives from Tranent-based Roots and Fruits.
Local MP Anne Moffat and John Home Robertson MSP were set to attend the official opening today.
Deputy headteacher Mark Melville was reported as saying: "It's a great experience for the kids. They are running a proper shop where they have to weigh out the groceries and give customers the correct change.
"Health and healthy eating are top of the domestic agenda, so it's great for the children to get involved."
