Public views on Scottish Water's future

MEMBERS of the public will have a say on how to expand the role of Scottish Water.

This week, the Scottish Government is launching its consultation on ways to give the utility "increased flexibility".

The move comes just weeks after original plans to legislate on its future were withdrawn. Ministers said the proposed Scottish Water Bill could be made more ambitious by opening it up to public views.

The consultation, called Building a Hydro Nation, will run until February when ministers will consider the submissions on opportunities for Scottish Water to take on new activities while remaining under public ownership before drawing up a new Bill.

Infrastructure minister Stewart Stevenson said: "Our consultation will seek views on the best ways of ensuring Scottish Water is able to take on additional functions."
