Proud Hibs skipper's descendents see cups
A PROUD descendent of Hibernian's first captain was among those who turned out to view two historic cups in the church where the club was founded.
The cups, won by Hibs in 1878, were on display in St Patrick's, Cowgate, before being presented at Easter Road this Saturday.
Sean Quinn, 15, from Earlston in the Borders, was delighted to see the cups first won by his great-great-great grandfather Michael Whelahan's team.
His dad, Paul, 45, originally from Leith, said: "It's in his blood and we really feel the family connection."
Others who attended to see the cups in their original home for the last time, before they are presented next Saturday at the Hibs v Aberdeen match, included the Henderson family from Middleton in Midlothian.
Dad Paul, 43, a lift engineer, attended with his wife Lisa, 36, a customer service worker, and their children Holly, 12, and Saul, nine months.
There was an added bonus for the family when they met their hero, Hibs legend Lawrie Reilly.
