Protestors heckle Goldie Hawn at Scots charity event

GOLDIE Hawn, the Hollywood star, was met by pro-Palestinian activists as she visited an Israeli charity's fundraising dinner in Glasgow last night.

The Academy Award-winning American actress, who is best known for her role in the hit movie Private Benjamin, was heckled by about 150 demonstrators who were beating drums and blaring horns as she arrived at the Hilton hotel.

The 62-year-old actress was due to speak to supporters of the Jewish National Fund.

The fund is Israel's main land distributor, but the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which organised last night's protest, believes it is a racist organisation and criticised Hawn for lending it her support.

Hawn was also greeted by a handful of fans who cheered her.

"It's a little chilly, but it's great to be here. I love Scotland," she told them.

Hawn, the mother of the film actress Kate Hudson, spent a couple of minutes signing autographs outside the hotel and gave ten-year-old Jason Carroll, of Glasgow, a hug.

He said: "It was great to meet her. I collect autographs and all my friends will be jealous."

The dinner was organised by the charity KKL Scotland, the Scottish equivalent of the England Jewish National Fund, with which it has close ties.

A KKL spokesman said: "The funds we raise will go to build a reservoir for all the people in the region regardless of their religion.

"We have got nothing whatever to do with the events taking place in Gaza."
