Price of liberty

There is a crucial question that Utopians, such as Robin McAlpine, never ask – let alone provide an answer for, (Perspective 27 June). How would the co-operation be obtained from free disobedient individuals to work for the “Common Weal?”

Noticeably no mention is made of individual liberty in the new economic blue-print for society. Isn’t the picture of Chinese workers under the headline “Work for the Common Weal” heavily symbolic?

Arguably this “left-wing” think-tank alternative to liberal democracy may be an offer to be “rich without liberty.”
