Preview: Bootleg Beatles, Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline

FOR many, 26 March, 1980, was a fab date. That was the evening that, at a student bash in Tiverton, Devon, The Bootleg Beatles made their debut.

Formed from the West End cast of musical Beatlemania, The Bootleg Beatles quickly established themselves as the next best thing to the real thing, even embarking on a six-week tour of The USSR to become the first western rock group to tour the Soviet Union.

You don't have to travel that far to see the Bootleg Beatles however, when their current tour brings them to Dunfermline's Alhambra Theatre next Friday, 22 July.

Billed as 'all the classic Lennon/McCartney hits in one spectacular multi-media production,' The Bootleg Beatles are Hugo Degenhardt (Ringo Starr), Neil Harrison (John Lenon), David Catlin-Birch (Paul McCartney) and Andre Barreau (George Harrison).

Over the years the fake fab four have performed for McCartney, Harrison and George Martin as well as The Queen at Buckingham Palace, as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Now into their third decade their stage show has been described as 'flawless,' 'fastidiously authentic' and demonstrating 'mind-boggling accuracy' earning them the accolade of 'The World's Premier Beatles Tribute Band.'

At the Alhambra, relive the history of The Beatles from the origins of The Fab Four to Sgt Pepper, All You Need Is Love and Let It Be. All in the costume of the period.
