Post office raider first cursed now jailed
A RAIDER who was told to "f*** off" after he threatened a sub-postmaster with a handgun and stole £1,240 was jailed for 40 months yesterday.
Mark Kernaghan, 27, of Glasgow, carried out the raid at the post office in Dundonald, Ayrshire, with an imitation firearm on 4 August last year.
James Picken and an employee were serving customers when Kernaghan, wearing a mask, burst through the door and shouted: "Give me the money, I want it now."
He presented the weapon at Mr Picken, who put bundles of notes into a bag, telling Kernaghan: "That's it, the drawer's empty. F*** off."
Later, police recovered a shirt and a balaclava, along with a plastic gun. DNA testing led detectives to Kernaghan.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Brailsford said he would have imposed a five-year term, but Kernaghan was due a discount for pleading guilty.
