Positive stance

Have your say

I WAS pleased to read letters by Norman Bonney and Tim Hopkins (28 June) about the publication and progress of the marriage equality bill in Holyrood. The discussion is now about when Scotland will have it and not if.

It was moving to see gay people and their families in California crying tears of joy and relief finally to have their relationships recognised by the law, which is the very foundation of equality. The grudging compromise of civil partnerships simply underscores the otherness of LGBT people.

We will save a lot of political time and energy if we just cut straight to equality for all.

Those who oppose it will soon be on the wrong side of history.
