Trump accused of ‘hysterical attack’
DONALD Trump has been accused of “hysteria” after he went on the offensive in his efforts to block plans for an “eyesore” offshore wind farm spoiling the view from his luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire.
In the space of a few hours, the billionaire fired off a series of letters from Trump Tower in New York to every Scottish MSP, warning that the plans to site 11 giant wind turbines in Aberdeen Bay risked making Scotland “the laughing stock of the world”.
He also sent a personal letter to Peter Argyle, the chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s planning authority, claiming his committee’s refusal to oppose the wind farm would be a decision he would “regret for the rest of his life”.
Willie Rennie, the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, branded Trump’s outburst as hysterical.
He declared: “He obviously thinks he’s got a lot of weight that he can throw around and try and get Scotland to do exactly as he wants. He’s got a right to be heard, of course, but no more than anybody else in this process. I think it’s a bit of a hysterical reaction from a man who is used to getting his own way.”
He went on: “Donald Trump’s hysterical attack exaggerates the impact of the offshore turbines on his golf course.
“Renewable resources are a critical part of the answer to our energy challenge and tackling climate change. Liberal Democrats fully support Scottish efforts to meet that challenge.”
Mr Rennie added: “Mr Trump should show a little more respect for Scotland. Calling it a laughing stock of the world says more about him than it does about Scotland.”

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 09:36 PMMaybe wiggy is worried that the turbulence will make him look even more of a point of ridicule. No matter how much money they pretend to have, those types always always don't get it, and the pathetic fawns that goad them need to be ignored. I doubt that excuse for a man could open a crisp packet without advice.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 09:19 PMI have never agreed with wind farms. They are costly, inefficient and ruin the landscape. UNTIL NOW!!!. If they are to be the cause of getting rid of the biggest carbuncle on the planet, good for them. With the current economic situation leading to cutbacks in spending on leisure, this person realises his project will not be the golden goose he had hoped for, and is looking for any apparently face saving method he can to drop it. He has already made millions from this venture, and the free publicity he has gained is probably worth billions more. There will always be some idiots who see him as a man who has been ill treated, and feel sorry for him. But Scots people are not so easily taken in (apart from some in Edinburgh).

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 02:20 PM#16 - The Trump knew about these plans years ago, before he made any formal application on Menie. He made threats then that if turbines were sited within his view, he would pull out. He carried on, convinced that he would bully the planning system in the way he does so well the world over. Maybe he is using this as an excuse to head back across the pond. Maybe he still thinks he can get OSL to dance to his tune. But as for your idea that 'they tried to pull a fast one with the windfarms and didn't consult with Trump' you should try that for the Booker Prize. Get real!

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 01:14 PMAnybody who invests in Scotland will be welcome. We need the jobs and the income to build the country up. Any government will court this. I think they tried to pull a fast one with the windfarms and didn't consult with Trump. If so, he is rightly upset.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 01:09 PM1 Velvet Rose Trump does not own Scotland but he owns what he thinks is the next best thing the SNP Government. When he tells Salmond to jump, Salmond says how high.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 01:03 PMTrump is a PSYCOPATH, AND A HABITUAL LIAR, if the wind farm gets the go ahead is he going to keep his word and ABANDON THIS DISASTEROUS PROJECT, is this wind farm just an excuse to abandon his development, as he has run out of money, and he knows it is going to be another of his major disasters. It will go BANKRUPT ANAYWAY. Is he looking for someone else to blame for him gutting and running from this disastrous project.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 12:55 PMIt's his money and his investment. He gets to say how he wants it run. That's what happens when you attract investors. They don't just give you money and then roll over. This is what will happen more and more if we get independance. More and more people telling us what they want to happen to their money. Time to get real, people. Better get used to it. To be fair, the windfarm plan was decided after the agreement with Trump for his golf course. I doubt anyone had the courteousy to consult Mr Trump about this?

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:12 AMLook a little deeper, the property market has changed; the leisure market has changed; the top end golf market has changed – if Trump’s plans for Mennie haven’t changed then he really isn’t that good a property developer. But we know he is; so how do you get out of building a $2 billion super resort? Those nasty wind thingys will help – cue a hissy fit, followed by pleas for help which are ignored then revise plan to build houses only – walk away with a few million profit. “I wanna thank ma Scattish chumps, sorry chums”

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 10:49 AMTrump the hypocrit. Money, money, money is what matters to him. Nothing else ever did. Trump towers? No, he doesn't. He's a sad old, balding little nyaff.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 10:03 AM#8 - It is a comment to the effect that Salmond and Swinney were so intent on doing what The Trump wanted that they failed to see what The Trump was telling them openly - that once he was had his feet under the table there he was going to call the shots. Point of fact - the turbine plan was in the public domain for years, not just before construction started, but before the planning process, and The Trump even at that stage attempted to influence the plans. Google it. FYI, I rather suspect I am a lot more familiar with the Menie dunes than you are. Interesting too that you ignore the vile attempts by TIGLS to eject a few ordinary non-billionaires from their homes to satisfy his unbounded vanity.
