It was a week of recrimination and blame in both Scottish and UK politics this week with the G4S Olympic saga dominating the

front pages.

The army are being drafted in but G4S boss Nick Buckles refuses to stand down arguing that the security firm had kept the government informed of its problems in deploying staff in time for the Games.

Scotland officially joined the rest of the UK back in recession when it was announced that the country’s economy shrank

by 0.1% in the first three months of this year.

Coalition partners David Cameron and Nick Clegg delivered a show of unity following recent spats over Lords reform.

The pair said the Conservative/ Lib Dem coalition had achieved more in its short life-span than the majority of previous Labour and Conservative

administrations.

The Scottish Government ruled out a referendum on gay marriage but said that a decision on whether to bring forward a bill on the subject would be made before the end of this month.

The Scotch Whisky Association flexed its muscles in the face of the Scottish Government’s minimum pricing policy with a pledge to challenge its legality at the European Commission.
