SNP Conference diary
There was a bit of a William Hague moment in the Perth conference venue yesterday when 12-year-old Makki Tahir delivered a speech to party delegates.
It was agreed the youngster spoke well and, mercifully, was short of the nauseatingly youthful precocity for which Hague’s 1977 speech to Margaret Thatcher’s Conservatives is remembered.
Put your shirt on the Yes campaign
Splits in the independence movement have not been confined to membership of Nato.
A bit of rivalry has been observed between the SNP and the Yes Scotland campaign over who can flog the most merchandise from their stalls.
The Yes Scotland football tops have proved incredibly popular, which has miffed the SNP, who are going to have to up their game.
White could do with a step up too
A STEP had to brought on to the conference stage to enable young Makki Tahir to see over the lectern.
But it had gone by the time the petite Glasgow Kelvin MSP Sandra White stood up to make her speech opposing membership of Nato.
“If I was 12 years old, I would have been given a step,” White said, getting a good laugh from the conference floor.
