ALISTAIR Darling, head of the pro-union Better Together campaign, has called for a “decisive” result in next year’s independence referendum.
In an online video message to mark the new year, Darling called for a clear result in the poll.
The former UK Chancellor also called for a civil debate ahead of September’s referendum.
He said: “As we enter this referendum year the debate will often be passionate, and that’s understandable as we make a historic and irreversible decision. However, that debate must not descend into division.”
Darling added: “There are patriots on both sides of this debate, and we should respect each other for that.”
