Reaction to Allan Wells’ wish that the Olympics inspires youngsters

OLYMPIC legend Allan Wells claims an ‘empty’ generation needs to rediscover a competitive edge.

The 1980 Olympic 100m gold medallist told the Evening News yesterday that too many of his compatriots were living in a “comfort zone”.

Wells said: “They say that the British are the most obese in Europe. I think people live in the comfort zone too much in Scotland. Athletics might not be the coolest because it’s committed, physical. But it’s for people who want to test themselves.

“They seem empty inside and I am saying, ‘where is the stimulation?’”
