Police issue warning to Stirling marchers

POLICE have warned up to 15,000 people expected to 
attend a controversial Orange march in Stirling today that 
anti-social behaviour will not be
 tolerated.

Some 10,000 marchers including up to 70 flute bands will take part in the march, with a further 5,000 spectators expected to 
attend.

The procession, organised by the County Grand Lodge, of central Scotland, will start at noon in the city’s King’s Park.

The last major parade in Stirling was in 1996.

Superintendent Gordon Dawson, of Central Scotland Police, said: “We want those attending to enjoy the event but any 
instances of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Stirling is one of the top tourist cities in Scotland and the city is for all to enjoy.”

Lodge Grand Master Charles Cefferty said: “People often 
misunderstand what our organisation is about and associate it with bad things. These people are misguided.

“We’re not an organisation that goes out to promote hate or fear. It’s very unfair for people to say otherwise without any 
evidence.”
