Olympic lottery cash call

THE lottery should not be raided any further to pay for the 2012 Olympics, a powerful parliamentary committee will today tell ministers.

A report from a cross-party committee of MPs says the Treasury should instead use the 12 per cent tax it receives on every lottery ticket to meet the rising cost of the games in London.

The culture, media and sport committee report also suggests further funds might be contributed by the London Development Agency, which stands to make substantial financial gains on resale of land after the games.

The report comes after The Scotsman revealed that good causes in Scotland faced losing an extra 51million on top of the multi-million-pound contribution they will already have to make to fund the Olympics.
