Moffat relieved she'll fight another election battle
A LOTHIANS MP has spoken of her relief at being selected to fight the next General Election - despite opposition from local branches of her own party.
East Lothian MP Anne Moffat was only backed by two of the six county branches of the Labour Party, but will fight the seat when the next Westminster election takes place.
The 59-year-old politician, who was first elected in 2001, reportedly said: "I'm chuffed to bits that people in the party have not allowed themselves to be influenced by controversy and speculation and have supported me on my record."
Of the six East Lothian branches, only Musselburgh and North Berwick supported her re-selection. Tranent, Haddington and Dunbar refused to back her, and Prestonpans was tied.
Despite this, her re-selection was secured thanks to strong trade union support.
