Island trip for ministers

MINISTERS are to visit Skye next week in the first of this year’s summer cabinet meetings, which are traditionally held outside the Capital.

The meeting at Highland Council’s Portree offices is part of a two-day programme of events, including a public discussion at the Aros Centre – led by First Minister Alex Salmond – and an evening reception at Portree High School.

The Skye meeting will be followed by similar meetings in Orkney and Renfrew.

Mr Salmond said: “I am looking forward to hearing the views of local people, along with senior ministers.

“Given that Skye is at the centre of Gaelic culture with its hugely successful Sabhal Mar Ostaig college, its annual festivals in music, books and dance, it is only natural that it should attract visitors.”
