A “celebration” of the life of SNP MSP Brian Adam has taken place at his funeral in Aberdeen.

The member for Aberdeen Donside passed away last week, aged 64, after a battle with cancer.

The funeral took place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Aberdeen, where he was a member.

His family said they wanted it to be a “celebration of Brian’s life and legacy” and had asked mourners to avoid sombre clothing.

Collections were taken for the Middlefield Community Project and Drugs Action, two charities which the father-of-five supported.

On Thursday, political leaders praised his contribution to Scottish politics and his bravery in the face of illness in a special motion of condolence at Holyrood.
