Events planned over WikiLeaks source

TODAY marks the 1,000th day in captivity of the American soldier arrested over the leaking of classified documents to whistleblowing webside WikiLeaks.

Events are planned across the world in support of Private Bradley Manning, detained in May 2010 in Iraq on suspicion of passing secrets to the website, whose founder, Julian Assange, is holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London as he fights a bid to extradite him to Sweden.

Manning faces a court martial in June at Ford Meade in Maryland.

A series of protests and demonstrations will be held across the US and Europe, including London, Yorkshire and Cardiff.

Assange faces allegations of sex offences – which he denies and fears being sent to the US if he travels to Sweden.
