Equal pay ‘timebomb’

COUNCILS across the Lothians are still dealing with thousands of outstanding equal pay claims, new figures have shown.

Statistics obtained by the Scottish Conservatives revealed that Edinburgh City Council has 2219 cases to settle.

Midlothian Council has a backlog of 471 cases, with 382 still be settled in West Lothian and 76 outstanding in East
Lothian.

Scottish Conservative local government spokeswoman Margaret Mitchell MSP said: “The issue of equal pay is still a ticking timebomb.”
