Devil’s in the acting detail

Dirleton Castle in East Lothian is to stage a re-enactment of the infamous 16th-century North Berwick witch trials this weekend.

A trial will be recreated based on events that took place in 1590, when many alleged witches had confessed under torture to meeting the devil and dedicating themselves to evil.

They were blamed for a storm which forced a ship carrying King James VI from Denmark to divert to Norway, where it was stranded for several weeks.
