Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop announces India culture trip

The culture secretary will visit India next month to promote the culture, education, tourism and business opportunities available in Scotland.

The week-long visit takes in the Rajasthan International Folk Festival in Jodhpur at the end of October and includes business, cultural and diplomatic engagements in Delhi. Fiona Hyslop announced the trip on a visit to the collaborative ReSide project involving Scottish and Indian textile artists at Heriot-Watt University’s campus in the Borders.

ReSide offers two textile designers from Scotland and two from Gujarat, India, the chance to participate in an exchange programme.

Ms Hyslop said: “India is one of the world’s fastest expanding economies and is an important investor in Scotland, providing approximately 5,000 Scottish jobs.”
