Council staff in pay protest

Local government workers are taking to the streets of Edinburgh to call for an end to the public sector pay freeze and a commitment to paying people a living wage.

Unions predict thousands of council workers will come out in support of Fair Pay Day. They are calling on councils to implement a living wage of £7.20, insisting this was a commitment made by both Labour and the SNP before the election. Unions also call for an end to the pay freeze for public service workers.

Unison, GMB and Unite members will mark Fair Pay Day with a petition.
