Council chiefs have their Twits about them

The city council is to take part in a national Twitter event that aims to increase awareness of local government business and services through social media.

Twitter 24 is run by the National Communications Group in Scotland and will kick off at noon today until noon tomorrow.

A number of council Twitter accounts will be taking part using the hashtags #mycouncil and #edin24. A variety of activities are planned across the 24-hour period, including a question-and-answer session with council leader Andrew Burns and a virtual bus tour of the city.

Last year, the council took part in the very first Twitter 24 event along with 29 other Scottish councils, offering an insight into the daily running of the country’s local
authorities.

Councillor Burns said: “As the world goes increasingly digital, it’s important the council explores different ways to communicate with its
residents.

“As a keen ‘tweeter’ myself, I’m delighted that we’re playing our part in this event.”

The ‘follow the bus’ will see @edintravel_live touring the city. Today the bus will travel through the south, south-west, city centre and Leith areas of the city, and tomorrow will tour the west, north and east areas.
