City’s Yes campaigners launch bid for independence
INDEPENDENCE supporters have launched an Edinburgh Yes organisation to spearhead the campaign for a Yes vote in the 2014 referendum.
The keynote speaker at the inaugural meeting at Drummond Community High School was former Lothians SNP MSP Shirley Anne Somerville, who is now Yes Scotland director of communities.
Yes Scotland activist and SNP city association convener Toni Giugliano said: “Yes Edinburgh will be a dynamic, innovative and grassroots campaign. It will differ from the conventional election campaigns we’re all used to. Whether it’s through concerts, coffee mornings or comedy nights, we’ll be reaching out to communities and involving them in the debate.
“The independence debate shouldn’t be led by politics or politicians, but by each and every sector of Scottish society. Civic Scotland, Business Scotland, the voluntary sector, community leaders – these are the people who will help us win a Yes vote in 2014, which is why they’re central to our campaign.”
From tomorrow, Yes Edinburgh plans to campaign in Princes Street every Saturday morning opposite The Mound
