Call to give UK OAPs free wine

SCOTS MP Ian Davidson wants every pensioner in Britain to be given a case of drink to help drain the European Union wine lake.

The Glasgow South West MP and six of his Labour colleagues have made a Commons call for the government to supply a dozen bottles of wine from the massive alcohol surplus of almost 800 million gallons across the continent.

Mr Davidson has put down a motion calling for the move signed by seven MPs including former Ministers Kate Hoey and Frank Field on the House of Commons Order Paper - Parliament's daily agenda sent to all MPs, ministers and senior civil servants.
