TONY Blair pledged yesterday to investigate The Scotsman's revelations about the Shirley McKie case.
The Prime Minister was challenged in the House of Commons by Alex Salmond.
The Scottish National Party leader asked about evidence suggesting that the FBI put pressure on Scottish officials not to reopen Ms McKie's case to avoid casting doubt on forensic evidence that was used to convict the Lockerbie bombers.
"Before I respond to that, I should look carefully at the story that is on the front page of The Scotsman," Mr Blair said to Mr Salmond.
Downing Street later said that the Prime Minister will write to Mr Salmond when he has considered the new revelations.
"I welcome the fact that the Prime Minister will look at The Scotsman's report," Mr Salmond said last night.
