Some screws are loose at Holyrood
AS WORKERS yesterday removed the Scottish Parliament's loose roof beam for inspection south of the Border, it emerged a bolt was missing from the half-tonne piece of wood.
Investigators had already established a bolt had fractured, but now admit the beam should have been held in place by two bolts, the second of which has disappeared.
They now believe that if the second bolt was missing, too much load may have been placed on the other fixing, causing it to break.
Ten days ago the beam in the debating chamber swung free, stopping inches from crashing into a glass screen and hanging 20ft above the Tory benches.
