Senior Tories claimed for pool cleaning
SENIOR Tory MPs used their taxpayer-funded expenses to pay for maintenance of swimming pools and gardening on their country estates.
And former Agriculture Minister Douglas Hogg even claimed over 2000 for clearing his moat, according to the latest revelations in the Daily Telegraph.
Former Edinburgh South Tory MP Michael Ancram claimed 98.58 for the repair of a swimming pool boiler, as well as 1117.43 for gardening at his country house in Wiltshire. He also claimed for Aga servicing.
Sir Michael Spicer, chairman of the powerful Tory backbench 1922 Committee, also spent 5650 of taxpayers' money having his garden maintained.
A new opinion poll shows both Labour and the Tories have dropped four points since the expenses revelations began. The Conservatives are on 39 per cent to Labour's 26, with the Lib Dems up four points to 22 per cent and "others" up four to 13 per cent.
