Salmond takes blame for loss in Glenrothes
ALEX SALMOND has accepted the blame for the SNP's defeat at the Glenrothes by-election.
The First Minister said he had got things wrong in Glenrothes, having failed to deal with the local issue of how the council had reorganised home care charges.
Saying he had "misjudged" the matter, he admitted he made a mistake in failing to react to Labour's attacks on the issue.
He said: "We were overwhelmed by a campaign that was local and entirely negative, based on scaremongering. The SNP will be back to defeat that kind of campaign."
SNP activists have also been quick to blame the First Minister for the election defeat.
Jim Sillars, the former SNP deputy leader who has previously clashed with Mr Salmond, said the SNP had become a "one man band" and that Mr Salmond's predictions of an SNP victory had caused problems. He said: "It became not Labour's to hold, but the SNP's to lose."
