Rangers chairman linked to new role with Scots Tories
SIR DAVID Murray is being linked with a new role as chairman of the Scottish Conservatives.
It was reported today that the Edinburgh-based businessman is being sounded out by the Tory Party as part of its bid to revive their electoral prospects north of the Border.
The position is vacant after the previous chairman Peter Duncan resigned following the fallout from a leaked memo that saw David Mundell, the party's only Scottish MP, brand his colleagues as clueless.
Sir David, who was unavailable for comment today, is executive chairman of Rangers and holds investments in a number of metals and property companies.
It is thought that an announcement on the appointment will be made next month.
The decision will be made by David Cameron as overall party leader but will be made in close consultation with Scottish leader Annabel Goldie and must also be formally ratified by the party's Scottish Executive.
Iain Whyte, the Tory leader on the city council, said: "If he is interested then I think it would be a good move.
"This sort of high profile appointment would certainly give the party a boost."
