Public opinion of Question Time
THE Scotsman took to the streets of Edinburgh yesterday to gauge public opinion on Nick Griffin's Question Time appearance.
Nathan Smith, 32, from Manchester, said: "I didn't like the way he laughed at certain questions.
"But it was out of order for the protesters to be outside trying to stop him speaking."
Pensioner Agnes Allan, 70, from Edinburgh, thought that Nick Griffin did not get a fair say on the programme.
She said: "I think he was short-changed by the fact that he was not allowed to answer the questions properly, and in a democratic country it is right that he had a voice."
London-born music producer Jonathan Reid, 24, said: "The fact that a man like him was allowed to speak was a disgrace."
Student Megan Mc Guigan, 19, said: " I do not agree with what (the BNP] stand for but I do think they had a right to speak.
Fiona Flynn, 57, a teacher from Invernesshire, said: "I am horrified he was on TV, but I don't think that it will have raised support for him, quite the opposite actually."
Colin Nairns, 59, a chartered surveyor from Edinburgh said: "I'm not sure if it was right, but parties like the BNP tend to attract people regardless of their profile."
