Parliament tribute for big band leader

TRIBUTE has been paid to Edinburgh's best-known big band leader, Tommy Sampson, in a motion lodged in the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Sampson, who died on October 20, aged 90, was born in Leith and had a long musical career, which started with the Salvation Army. The motion praises his "considerable contribution to music and inspiration to other musicians", as well as his fundraising work for charities, and expresses condolences to his family and friends.
