MSPs focus on contact lens factory closing
MSPs are to debate the decision by contact lens manufacturer Bausch & Lomb to close its Livingston factory.
Forty-five workers at the plant were due to finish work today for the last time, with the rest of the 500 jobs at the factory set to disappear over the next 18 months as production is transferred to Ireland and the US.
SNP Livingston MSP Angela Constance has secured a debate in the Scottish Parliament on the closure as soon as MSPs return from the Christmas recess on Wednesday, 6 January.
She said: "I regret that Bausch and Lomb are continuing to pursue closure of its award-winning manufacturing site.
"This is a huge blow to the West Lothian economy where unemployment is at its highest in a generation. It is hard at any time of the year to be losing your job and livelihood, more so at Christmas."
